Atom SQ MIDI controller could be a beginner’s best bet!

Presonus has launched a new controller, the Atom SQ, and claims it will suit everyone.
Atom SQ’s design is optimised for “both classic TR-style 16-step beat sequencing and drum pattern editing in Studio One or playing instruments and launching clips in Ableton Live”.
Priced at $250/£250, Atom SQ is built for “deep integration” into their Studio One DAW. It is powered by USB C and is automatically detected and set up by Studio One.

The controller takes the classic sequencer look, and revitalises it into a thoroughly modern chassis, and dare I say it, plenty of RGB backlighting.
The whole controller is built around a velocity-sensitive 32-pad configuration, laid out in two rows to allow for keyboard-like performance as a secondary function.
With options for arpeggios and scale selection, an essential feature for producers with non-traditional music training, the controller looks set to be a centrepiece for users of Studio One.
Alongside the pads, the user will have eight endless rotary encoders, transport controls, and various other parameters. These will be configurable to control many different parts of Studio One and Ableton.

The controller comes bundled with the latest version of Studio One Artist, a tier up from the free version, meaning it is a great first-time purchase for new producers.
It also includes 2 loop packs with custom kits for Impact XT.
For Ableton users, the product claims to be compatible for stage and studio, with the pads able to launch clips and scenes, as well as general studio control and drum programming.
Adding to it’s beginner-value selling points, buyers will also get a free licence to Ableton Live Lite.
